Our
Mosquito Briquets are a biological control agent for
control of mosquito larvae in all types of breeding
areas such as ponds, natural pools, bird baths old
tires, gutters, ditches and any place that water collects
and stands. These briquets contain a bacteria called
Bacillus thuringiensis that kills the mosquito larvae
for up to 30 days or more. The floating action ensures
that active material is released at the surface as
well as gradually settle to the bottom. Each briquet
has a hole so it can be anchored in place if desired.
They can also be broken up into pieces for smaller
areas as each briquet will treat 100 square feet of
water surface. The bacteria affects only mosquitos
and will not harm any desirable fish or wildlife.

ENVIRONMENTAL
THREAT BY MOSQUITOS
Mosquitoes are vectors of many
critical human diseases like Malaria ,Cerebral Malaria,
Dengue, Japanese Encephalitis, yellow fever, Filariasis
and many other arboviral diseases which now cause
a global concern.
Resistance of Mosquitoes to chemical insecticides,
toxic and hazardous character of petroleum based insecticides,
pose a real environmental and survival threats to
the human beings which presently necessiate the wide
use of biological larvicide for the control of mosquitoes
.
Bacillus thuringiensis var.israelensis (Bti) is a
bacterium occurring naturally in soil and swampy aquatic
environmental. This organism has shown rapid larvical
characteristics against both mosquitoes (Anopheles,
Culex and Aedes species)and black flies.
ABOUT
PRODUCT:MOS-KITOS
The biolarvicide Bacillus thuringiensis
var. Israelensis is indigenously produced as MOS-KITOS
in powder and granule form by Amit Biotech, Kolkata
based on biotechnology. It has been fully tested in
Several habitats and has been found to be highly effective
against various species of mosquitoes larvae such
as Anopheles, Culex and Aedis species. Bti is included
as biolarvicide in National Malaria Eradication Programme
(NMEP), Govt. of India.
ACTIVE
INGREDIENT AND MODE OF ACTION
The active ingredient in MOS-KITOS
is composed of viable endospores of Bacillus thuringiensis
var. Israelensis and delta endotoxin crystals. Larvicidal
activity is dependent upon the ingestion of these
components when eaten eaten by the larvae. After ingested
the alkaline pH condition and enzymes in the gut fluid
of the larvae rapidly hydrolyze the material in the
to active sub-units resulting secretion of toxins
which attacks the cells of the midgut. Immediately
gut paralysis occurs and the cells of the mudgut became
extensively damaged resulting perforation of gutwall.
The subsequent flow the toxic substances in to the
larval body cavity causes death within 4 to 24 hours.
Since digestion in the mosquitoes gut of alkaline
pH is required to activate the toxins, it has no effect
on the aquatic food chain.

MOS-KITOS
OPERATIONAL AREAS
MOS-KITOS can be used in all types of breeding sites
such as fresh water, salty marshes, swamps, drains, ditches, swage
lagoons, periphery of ponds, marshy pastures, creeks
streams and rivers. The Active ingredients a narrow
host range.
MOS-KITOS has been found to have no effect on non
target animals, wildlife, cattle and human beings.
The higher recommended rates of MOS-KITOS should be
used in water having high concentration of organic
pollutants. The rise in water temperature accelerates
the larval metabolic activity and thus influence larval
feeding and development can also a factor in determining
the application rate. Similarly Higher water temperature
also favours rapid multiplication of Bti, which needs
lower rates of applications.

AMIT
BIOTECH strongly recommends the use of medicated mosquito
nets wherever mosquitoes and other biting insects spread diseases
such as malaria, dengue. The health benefits are greatest
among young children, pregnant women and other people (such
as visitors) who have little immunity to the disease.
New studies conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO)
confirms that medicated mosquito nets can reduce childhood
mortality by as much as one-third in malaria-ridden parts.
What are the advantages of a medicated net?
In reality, most nets are not used properly,
|
|
·
Nets may be torn.
· Nets may be too small to tucked in so that mosquitoes can
enter under the net to feed.
· People may roll and sleep against the side of the net.
Medicated nets provide protection under such situations and
even against the very small insects such as sand flies that
can penetrate most nets.
Active ingredient acts at several levels repelling the insect
from the treated surface or acting as an antifeedant. The
overall effect is very significant added protection.
Not all mosquitoes spread malaria. Malaria is spread by a
particular variety of mosquito known as the Anopheles mosquito,
which prefers to feed at night while people are sleeping.
A mosquito looking for blood will be attracted towards a person
but will then come into contact with the medicated net. Mosquitoes
are repelled by their contact with the net. The repellent
effect of the insecticide means that other people sleeping
